From NPR in Los Angeles, I'm Tony Cox, in for Tavis.

These are troubling times for some African nations. The bodies continue to pile up in the four-and-a-half-year-long civil war in the Congo. In that time, more than three million people have died. That's more fatalities than in any conflict since World War II. Meanwhile, in Nigeria, millions turned out to vote in Africa's largest nation recently. But the exercise of that privilege has been marred by violence.
