Dateline: N'DJAMENA, Chad President Idriss Deby returned to Chad Saturday after a month in Paris during which rumors swirled about his health following a report that he had collapsed during the African Union summit in mid-July.

Deby, 51, walked unaided in the pouring rain from his airplane and waved to the waiting crowd, but he did not speak.

While attending the AU summit in Maputo, Mozambique, Deby was reported to have collapsed; instead of returning to N'Djamena on July 13 with the rest of the Chadian delegation, he continued on to Paris. He is reported to have suffered from a pancreas ailment in the past.
