Lawyers for antiques dealer ask judge to deny North Carolina's request for Bill of Rights copy

Dateline: ELIZABETH CITY, North Carolina Lawyers for an antiques dealer and his investment partner told a federal judge that he should deny North Carolina's request for an original copy of the Bill of Rights the state claims as its own.

Officials in North Carolina contend the document belongs to the state and was stolen from its Capitol in 1865 by an Ohio soldier.

It was recovered in March by FBI agents, and North Carolina attorneys have asked a federal court to order it returned. The judge did not rule Monday.
