Senior officials from the United States, Japan and South Korea will
meet Wednesday to prepare for planned six-way talks on the North Korean
nuclear issue, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said.
The unofficial talks in Washington are a forerunner to negotiations
set to take place in Beijing later this month aimed at defusing tensions
over U.S. allegations that Pyongyang is trying to develop nuclear
weapons, according to a ministry statement released Tuesday.
