For Immediate Release August 13, 2003 GAO Study Finds Low Risk Associated With Spent Nuclear Fuel Transit WASHINGTON (August 13) - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Billy Tauzin (R-LA) and Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality Chairman Joe Barton (R-TX) today announced the results of a GAO study, requested by Barton, concluding that the likelihood of widespread harm to human health and the environment from a terrorist attack or transportation accident involving spent nuclear fuel is very low, and extremely unlikely.
