Jeff Suppan allowed two runs over 6 2-3 innings and Manny Ramirez
homered for the second straight game to lead the Red Sox to a 6-4
victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night.
Suppan (1-1), who had allowed 16 earned runs in 16 1-3 innings since
coming to Boston on July 31, gave up six hits. He struck out one and
didn't walk a batter.
With their second straight win, the Red Sox tied the Oakland Athletics
in the wild-card race. The Athletics lost to the Toronto Blue Jays
6-3.
Boston led 4-1 going into the seventh, when Rey Sanchez tripled and
scored on Dan Wilson's groundout. Alan Embree replaced Suppan and
gave up back-to-back ...
