Vic: Dairy products help fight colon cancer: researcher

MELBOURNE, Aug 25 AAP - A diet rich in dairy products has been linked to reducing the risk of colon cancer, a senior researcher said at a food conference in Melbourne today.

Colon cancer was the third most common type of cancer in Australia, CSIRO senior research scientist Dr Graeme McIntosh said.

He said dairy products, which contained high levels of the trace element selenium, helped prevent colon cancer.

Selenium is an element found in some plants.
