National Ballet of China to Open Northrop Dance Season
The National Ballet of China, today one of China's major artistic entities,
opens the 2001-02 Northrop Dance Season with performances at 8 p.m., Friday
and Saturday, October 5, 6 at Northrop Auditorium.
The 57-member Beijing company, which first appeared at Northrop in 1986,
will emphasize its classical orientation in this engagement. Both programs
feature La Sylphide, the 19th century's most enduring ballet, and The
Yellow River, based on the epic Yellow River Cantata by Xian Xinghai.
The Chinese government has accorded its National Ballet great importance
