The packed audience at the David Henry Hwang Theater in Los Angeles' Little
Tokyo responded with enthusiastic applause and a standing ovation as the
cast of the new musical, Manzanar: the Story of an American Family, took
their bows on the stage of the former church on Feb. 23.

"It was a deeply moving experience," commented actor George Takei the
original Star Trek's Mr. Sulu and one of the founders of the East West
Players that staged several readings of the new production. "The composers
really know how to write music. It was great! It'll be easy to tighten up
from its two-and-a-half-hour run. What's needed now is the money to make it
a plush production."
