In an historic moment, Dr. Jimmy R. Jenkins Sr., president of Edward Waters
College recently signed the agreement that established the Edward Waters
College Construction Institute. The partnership, which is the first between
a Historical Black College and University (HBCU) and the National
Association of Minority Contractors (NAMC), will create opportunities for
the college to enroll nearly 200 new students during the program's first
phase. With the assistance of NAMC, the Edward Waters College Construction
Institute will be able to provide craft and job training to residents of
Jacksonville's Enterprise Zone, as well as project labor for community
