Scores on the Georgia Criterion Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT) show
Atlanta Public Schools (APS) first graders outperforming their state
counterparts from around the state in English/language arts by three
percentage points and in math by one percentage point. APS first graders
also performed as well as their peers statewide in reading.

"This is strong validation of what we have been saying all along-all
children can learn. It is yet another indicator that we are on the right
track with our school reform initiatives," said Dr. Beverly L. Hall,
