Expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) was first created in 1975 by President
Gerald Ford as a way of helping low-income working parents earn enough
money to support their dependent children.

Since its inception, it has been expanded to help more low-income, working
families, including those without children. The goal of the EITC is to
reward work by giving a tax credit to low-income families so that their
income can be sufficient to keep them out of poverty.
