Carpenters' Union locals seen opening up to people of color
At the Boston Water and Sewer Commission job site on Harrison Ave., when
carpenters have a beef with Suffolk Construction, or each other, they ask
for "Eddie," as union steward Easton Dailey is known.
At the Vine Street Center, currently under construction on Dudley Street,
Ozzie Weeks is the steward, making sure carpenters on the job have the
right tools, the right working conditions, and, of course, their union
cards.
Being a steward affords a carpenter few perks.
"You're the second carpenter on the job, after the foreman, and you're
second to the last to go," Dailey explains.
