When I ponder the learning that occurs within our college's classrooms, I
fondly remember a few lines from Coolio's song "Gangsta's Paradise," which
was one of the soundtrack songs to the film Dangerous Minds:
They say I gotta learn, but nobody's here to teach me...if they can't
understand, how can they reach me? I guess they can't, I guess they won't,
I guess they front...that's why I know my life is out of luck.
Perhaps the most illuminating aspect of Coolio's lyrics is his perception
that teachers are not able to reach out to teach him because they don't
