Reform movement protests Scout ban on gays
Leaders of the Jewish Reform movement have advised congregations across the
country to cut ties with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) for what is viewed
as discrimination against gays. The Jan. 5 announcement, the strongest yet
from any religious group, comes seven months after a Supreme Court decision
allowing the Boy Scouts to exclude gay members and leaders.
The memorandum suggests that synagogues nationwide not sponsor or
financially support local Scout troops, as well as protest against regional
chapters of the Boy Scouts until they change their charter. Disallowing
