Growing up in the only Jewish family in the small central Texas town of
Hamilton, actor, play-wright and yoga teacher Mark Harelik hated country
music.
"When I lived in Hamilton, I took piano lessons," he says. "I was at home
practicing Chopin; I didn't like country music. I associated it with
trashiness."
However, years later while a student actor at the Pacific Conservatory of
the Performing Arts in California (PCPA), Harelik suddenly found himself
homesick for Texas and its signature sound.
"I borrowed a guitar and started playing country, specifically Hank
Williams songs," recalls Harelik, 51. He spoke by phone from Chicago where
