Bishop De la Cruz threatened
MANILA -- The life of Basilan Bishop Romulo de la Cruz is in danger after
he recently issued a strong pastoral statement urging the military and the
police to flush out the Abu Sayyaf group.
Fearing for his life, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines
has asked the government to provide security and protection against those
who threaten or harm De la Cruz.
"Bishop De la Cruz has made his own moral stand and a very courageous one.
But his pastoral pronouncement has placed his life in even more danger than
before," CBCP President and Cotabato Archbishop Orlando Quevedo said in a
statement.
