Mayon eruption no threat to life

After eight months of intermittent restive behavior, Mayon Volcano erupted
Thursday in a series of explosions that registered the highest intensity at
11:23 a.m.

But Raymundo Punongbayan, director of the Philippine Institute of
Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), said there was no reason to panic as
the eruption was generally mild and not life-threatening.

"We can, in fact, just observe and enjoy the eruption from a distance,"
