POTPOURRI: Dry mouth or xerostomia

IT is probably human to take most things in life for granted until
something significant to a person's well-being is found to be amiss. For
instance, one fails to realize the importance of saliva and its vital
functions, until afflicted with a condition known as dry mouth or
xerostomia.

The presence of adequate saliva in the mouth is quite essential in
performing and enjoying the routine daily oral activities which one is
deprived of, when dry mouth exists.

The various functions of saliva include:

1. It facilitates talking.

2. It makes swallowing easier.
