THIS winter season is shaping up to be severely cold with subfreezing
temperatures (often in the low teens or even single digits), strong winds
and frequent snowstorms.

Aside from the dreaded flu or influenza which one may avoid by getting the
flu shot, the common cold is yet another nuisance with which to contend.

Most of us depend on the reliable traditional home remedies that mom used
effectively, such as bed rest, chicken soup and over-the-counter analgesics
for aches and pains.

However, some have tried to combat the common cold with other popular
remedies, including various plants and herbs, vitamins and minerals.
