Two Arab-American men are to appear before a grand jury in Bronx Criminal
Court on Wednesday for the attempted arson of a Riverdale, N.Y., synagogue
on the eve of Yom Kippur, the Bronx District Attorney's Office said.
Mohammed Alfaqih, 18, and Mazin Assi, 21, both from Yonkers in neighboring
Westchester County, were arrested on October 11, three days after two
bottles filled with flammable liquid were hurled at the Conservative Adath
Israel Synagogue, police said. The two men were charged with attempted
criminal mischief, attempted arson, criminal possession of a weapon and
aggravated harassment, the D.A.'s office said.
