American Muslims criticize Taliban action
American Muslims, under the banner of the influential American Muslim
Council (AMC), which counts among its members several South Asian-American
Muslims, has joined the United States government in condemning the Taliban
for its destruction of the ancient Buddha statues at Bamiyan in central
Afghanistan.
Describing the Afghanistan regime's action as totally un-Islamic, the AMC
said it is "deeply disturbed by the Taliban's recent destruction of the two
ancient Buddhist statues, despite offers from foreign museums to buy them
and a proposal to build a giant wall to hide them."
