Congressman Frank Pallone has written to Secretary of State Colin Powell
urging the State Department to take a cue from Great Britain and pledge
Washington's support for a permanent seat for India in the United Nation's
Security Council.

But a senior State Department official told India Abroad that there would
be no change in United States policy, which was that it would likely go
along with whatever was decided upon by the UN committee looking into
Security Council expansion.
