The Tulsa Slavery Case took an important turn last week when the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit against the John Pickle
Company, alleging discrimination against 52 Indian workers on the basis of
race and origin.
The civil suit, filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of
Oklahoma, charges that the company is in violation of Title VII of the
Civil Rights Act of 1964, and seeks lost wages as well as compensatory and
punitive damages on behalf of the Indians.
"The amount we are seeking is between $50,000 and $300,000 for each
employee," Robert A. Canino, the EEOC's regional attorney for Dallas, said.
