Since late 1998, when Standing Stone Media Inc. bought Indian Country
Today, and particularly since January, 2000, when Tim Johnson, Six Nations
Mohawk, took over as publisher and executive editor, the nation's premier
American Indian newspaper has undergone a number of important changes.

During this first year, we got to know our reporting network, our audience
and our base of operations. We also sustained a strong dialogue with Indian
country journalists, canvassing for a good mix of experienced Indian and
non-Indian writing and editing talent that could help us provide Indian
