It used to be that Social Security was a given as one of the main sources
of funds to supplement one's retirement savings. In recent years, however,
the future of Social Security has been called into question.
Each leading presidential candidate has devised a way to fix Social
Security. Before delving into the Bush and Gore plans for Social Security
reform, however, it is important to understand how it works and why there
are proposals for reform.
