Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among Black women, over
age 30. Ten percent of Black women contract breast cancer before age 40.
The American Cancer Society estimates that 18,000 new cases of breast
cancer will be diagnosed among African-American women and that over 5,000
African-American women will die from breast cancer annually.

Black women are more likely to have advanced cases of the disease, simply
because the cancer was not discovered in time. It is critical that Black
women begin proactive measures, such as doing monthly self-breast exams and
