THE list of closures and job cutbacks gets longer by the day here. And it's
no longer just the high profile information technology sector and tourism
that have been hit. Now it's mainstream big names like The Irish Times,
which wants to lose 250 out of 710 workers, or Cement Roadstone Holdings
(CRH) or Waterford, both of which issued profit warnings in the last week
or two.

And there are many others as well. It's not just Aer Lingus, hit by the
catastrophic fall off in air travel after September 11, or big hotels where
