Is the water at your favorite beach contaminated? Would you be told if it
was? Sewage spills and polluted runoff plague runoff plague many of our
coastal communities each year and put public health and safety at risk.
Yet, only 10 states test their beach waters regularly for disease-causing
microorganisms: Those that do monitor beach water quality often fail to
alert the public when beach waters are too polluted for recreation. In
