Groups Ponder Options in Charitable Choice Debate
What do religious groups think of the growing movement to provide them with
tax dollars so they can offer social services such as drug-abuse counseling
or job training?
Nearly a dozen groups have spent the last two years discussing issues
associated with faith-based initiatives. On Tuesday they published a report
on their work, "In Good Faith: A Dialogue on Government Funding Faith-Based
Social Service."
President George W. Bush is among the leading proponents of charitable
choice, as the initiative is also called, and has created an office to
further the effort headed by Philadelphian John DiIulio.
