Is the promising premise of "Promises" implausible?

The Oscar-nominated documentary -- written, produced and directed by
Justine Shapiro and B.Z. Goldberg, with co-direction and editing by Carlos
Bolado -- is cut from the same cloth as "Rocky," with wary warriors
battling against the odds.

Only this one heavyweight contender for the Oscar is real, and the rocky
road to triumph and understanding is damned by the muddled Middle East
conundrum.

Shot in 1997, 1998 and 2000 -- relatively halcyon times before the
atmosphere of today -- "Promises" is shot with wonderful close-ups of
Palestinian and Israeli children getting up close and personal -- in a
peaceful way.
