HATRED
Funny, he doesn't look Jewish.
But Lawrence Newman's WASPish way of life leads to a hornet's nest of
problems when he dons a pair of eyeglasses.
Suddenly, the benign Brooklyn Boy Scout-of-a-neighbor takes on an astute
Jewish professorial look. And despite his professing to be the same genteel
gentile he's always been, those in the neighborhood who once welcomed him
warmly regard and reject him as a Jew.
And that's a dangerous neighborhood to be in -- anti-Semitic 1940s'
Brooklyn.
