BETWEEN THE LINES: Finally, an LAUSD Plan to Help `Black' Children
Last week, the Los Angeles Unified School District made a commitment to
"Black" children in danger of being left behind. The LAUSD School Board,
inclusive of the "Riordan Reform" block, was forced to reckon with the
reality of stagnated and prolonged public school failures that the African
American community has faced the last 15 years. That has forced it to
consider all options (including vouchers, twice) to escape the widening
disparities of achievement in the highest performing school and the lowest
