Metro Detroit congestion unstoppable?
The Surface Transportation Policy Project released a national report
showing that metro Detroit drivers face the third worst congestion burden
in the nation. The report also studied methods of addressing congestion,
revealing that Michigan's road building spree will not end the gridlock.
In Easing the Burden, STPP reports on the "Congestion Burden Index" for 68
metropolitan areas, combining data on rush-hour traffic with information on
the number of people who escape the gridlock because they have convenient
transit choices. STPP analyzed data from the Texas Transportation Institute
at Texas A&M University.
