New Bethel rally protests Afghan war

A broad spectrum of Detroit's political activists gathered at New Bethel
Baptist Church Nov. 10 to denounce the war in Afghanistan and link it to
the war against the poor and people of color in the U.S.

Speakers at the rally, which drew 200 people, called for the building of a
grass roots movement to include youth of color, who are disproportionately
represented in the U.S. military.

"I'm sorry that more of our young people, Black, white, Arab, Native,
Latin, aren't here," said Debbie Johnson of the Detroit chapter of the
