Black firefighters protest hiring McMellon
The Vulcan Society of Black Firefighters of the Fire Department of New York
(FDNY) held a press conference recently at Vulcan Hall in Brooklyn to voice
its position on the FDNY's hiring of Edward McMellon. He is the white cop -
there were four in all - who pumped 16 of the 41 bullets at the unarmed and
unthreatening Amadou Diallo. Nineteen of the bullets hit and killed the
young man from Guinea, West Africa.
Lt. Paul Washington, accompanied by several fellow firefighters, EMS
workers and Seikou Diallo, the deceased's father, said, "We are opposed to
