Trust holders of posh Gramercy Park to face civil rights lawsuit
The federal lawsuit against the Gramercy Park Trust, the group that
maintains Gramercy Park, 14th to 23rd streets and Park Avenue South to
Third Avenue, is set for oral arguments on June 21.
Lawyers representing Manhattan's Washington Irving High School and
Roosevelt Island's P.S./I.S. 217 elementary schoolchildren, their parents,
schoolteachers, and members of the National Arts Club (NAC) said they
expect to win in a case that is challenging the trust's longstanding
exclusive-entrance policy for New York City's only two-acre private park.
