Fidel Castro's Cuba has indicated that it plans to make direct food
purchases from African-American farmers, thanks to a recent goodwill and
trade mission undertaken by the NAACP to the island nation.

"This is a historic action and one that I personally find very heartening,"
said Kweisi Mfume, NAACP president and leader of the delegation to Cuba.

President Castro also promised to establish trade links with
African-Americans and give them full access to the country's $1.5 billion
import agriculture market. The deal was made under a U.S. law that allows
