High school students from across New York City sent a loud message to city
leaders last week, emphasizing that public education initiatives and
rebuilding downtown as a financial center should be top priorities for
elected officials. During The Fourth Great Kids Budget Debate, held at the
McGraw-Hill Auditorium in mid-town, student debaters from 12 different
public high schools spoke out in favor of increased school funding,
recycling programs, reinstating the commuter tax and borrowing $1.5 billion
in city bonds. The debaters spoke out against toll hikes on city bridges.
