Almost simultaneously a few days ago, as the newest Caribbean carrier,
Caribbean Sun Airlines took to the skies, the most elderly of the region's
sky buses, BWIA, was busy retrenching some 617 employees - days after
realizing a net loss (for 2002) of TT$182.1 million.

Employees affected include pilots, managers and general staff who received
relevant lay-off letters in the fall of last year. These will be given
separate packages which in some cases amount to hundreds of thousands of
dollars per staff member.
