I join Congressman John Conyers today, June 23 in expressing my dismay and
concern regarding the recent events in Benton Harbor. History has shown us
time and time again that people who suffer from decades of deprivation and
discrimination - who cannot obtain legal or political redress for their
plight - will eventually take matters into their own hands.
The recent disturbances in Benton Harbor are a damning indictment of the
local authorities, civil and police and a measure of how neglectful our
society has been with respect to cities like Benton Harbor.
Benton Harbor's problems cannot be resolved simply through window dressing
or public relations. A ...
