WARSAW -- The September 15 issue of Poland's weekly "Wprost" published an
article warning that the Roman Catholic Church in Poland is facing a split.
One part is led by Cardinal Jozef Glemp, the primate of Poland, and the
other by Father Tadeusz Rydzyk, the charismatic head of Radio Maryja -- the
highly influential nationwide radio station based in Torun (central
northern Poland). Radio Maryja claims a regular listenership of 1.4 million
on a daily basis and some 5.9 million per week.

The article, titled "Split in the Church," is subtitled "The Torun Catholic
