Williams, Shinhoster To Be Honored: Ford And Firestone To Be Denounced
During March
ATLANTA -- A march and rally celebrating the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. will be held in downtown Atlanta this Monday, January 15, 2001.
The Atlanta march will also honor the lives of two longtime civil rights
leaders who died in 2000 -- Earl T. Shinhoster and Hosea Williams.
Shinhoster served as acting executive director and CEO of the NAACP from
1995 to 1996, helping to increase membership and reduce the debt of the
then-troubled organization.
Until his death in June of last year, Shinhoster was director of NAACP's
Voter Empowerment Project to register and educate voters.
