Tennessee Grows as Center of the New Automotive South
If money talks, then a whopping new $3 billion investment in the automotive
industry in Tennessee speaks loud and clear.
The dollars are the result of two recent announcements from Nissan Motor
Company and General Motor's Saturn Corporation. Over the next three years,
Nissan plans to invest $1.43 billion to expand its Decherd, Tenn., engine
operations and maximize its vehicle production capacity utilization in
Smyrna, Tenn. Saturn's plans call for $1.5 billion in improvements by 2003
including a new $500 million engine factory. The company's expansion
