Black children are more likely than their peers to have disabling chronic
health problems and their rates are rising faster, according to a new and
disturbing national report obtained by The Sun Reporter.

The study comes as Bay Area Black community leaders and civil rights
activists worry how cuts in public health programs -- due to budget cuts at
the local, county, state and federal level -- will result in program
reductions that will hurt Black children more than others.

Researchers said they looked at data on 419,843 children between the years
1979 to 2000 and asked parents if their children "had chronic ailments that
impacted their daily lives," according to one ...
