Many city residents are boasting about how well Mayor W.W. Herenton and the
Memphis City Council are managing the financial affairs of the Bluff City
and about how we again will not face a property tax increase. There is
certainly room for boasting but that pride should not allow city residents
to forget they are Shelby County residents as well.
A city tax increase is not on the horizon but a county tax increase -- a
hefty one in fact -- is definite and city residents face it just as do
non-residents of Memphis. The trouble is that the cause for this huge
county property tax increase was not created by city residents nor do city
residents benefit to any mentionable ...
