Despite being touted as the most powerful city in the world, Washington,
D.C. is also fast gaining a notoriety for not caring too much about the
plight of its indigent.

According to figures published recently, the Washington metropolis has
become the leader in the number of people who are homeless. This year, it
has been estimated that due to hard times, about 20,000 people will be
homeless.

In the words of Shawn Flaherty, spokesperson for Freddie Mac, 40 percent of
this figure is expected to be families and another 28 percent will be
children.
