The city of Atlanta, Georgia, recently made history when Shirley Clarke
Franklin was elected Mayor of this thriving Metropolis and The Washington
Informer was there to join in the celebration!
A city that has grown to become a new Mecca of business opportunities,
Franklin is the first African American female to preside over Atlanta's
City Hall. Passed the torch by Mayor William Campbell, who had served his
terms, the new mayor persevered through a hotly contested race against a
Caucasian opponent. A very intelligent, articulate, beautiful woman, her
victory was quickly embraced by the entire city, non-supporters included.
