Conchita Martinez was upset by unseeded Maria Vento-Kabchi 6-1, 6-
3 Thursday at the Wismilak International.
"I was making a lot of unforced errors and playing short," said Martinez,
the 1994 Wimbledon champion who was seeded third. "I didn't feel
I had my legs there."
Vento-Kabchi stunned Chanda Rubin in the first round of the U.S. Open
and now has victories over three top 20 players in her past four tournaments.
That helped lift the Venezuelan's ranking from 172nd to 72nd.
