A California company has recalled its Cotija Cheese vacuum-packed in plastic and Cotija Cheese in foam tray with plastic cling wrap because they might be contaminated with listeria.

Ariza Cheese Co. in Paramount, Calif., said Tuesday no illness has been reported from the products.

Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections or short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness and nausea. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

The Cotija Cheese was manufactured from April 21 to 25 and was distributed in California, Texas and New York through retail stores.
